I like to eat, and I like to sleep.

Popsicle Heaven

This weekend I went home to spend some time with my sisters. It was quite the gluttonous weekend. We got doughnuts, huaraches, brunch and a lot of popsicles.

I’ll keep this post strictly to the best summertime treat ever - popsicles.

We went to the Brooklyn Flea market and stopped by People’s Pops. You can really taste the fruit, texturally it felt like biting into a big-frozen-mutant-mixed rectangular fruit.

I got the blueberry apricot one

Considering it was 90+ degrees out this was the best thing the city had to offer.

And just for a split second after inhaling the thing I felt a shiver, either from the temperature of the frozen treat or of sheer enjoyment.

After the Brooklyn Flea we walked across the High Line and bought even more popsicles! This time from La Newyorkina

I gotta say I enjoyed La Newyorkina’s popsicles way more. They felt lighter/more refreshing, almost like a frozen agua fresca rather than a fleshy frozen fruit. They both were hitting the spot but who knows, perhaps I was just more overheated at that point in the day.

I ordered the watermelon lime combo. Since watermelon is my favorite fruit, I suppose I was biased. BUT, I sure do gotta say that this actually tasted like real watermelon, which rarely ever happens unless you are eating a real one. It was a pleasant surprise.

My sister got the Cucumber Lemon combo, my second favorite one out of the three which we ordered. It definitely is an acquired taste I suppose, because if you want something sweet then don’t get this. It straight up tasted like cucumbers with a spritz of lemon, it was surprisingly delicious.

My other sister got the Hibiscus. As much as I love hibiscus, it just fell flat compared to the other two. I suppose it just wasn’t as refreshing as I hoped for on such a hot day. Welp, that’s the order of which I enjoyed most from left to right.

I LOVE POPSICLES, and have been inspired to make my own, so stayed tuned to that if I ever get around to doing so.
